Angela Encerrado is an international PhD student in the Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry (AGC) Graduate Group at UC Davis, studying the effects of xenobiotic chemicals on honey bee colonies, with a focus on queen bee health and reproduction. Her project was selected for the prestigious Pam-Costco Scholarship. Angela gained her interest and love for honey bees from her father, a renowned beekeeper in Northern Mexico, and has merged her interests in environmental chemistry, beekeeping, and agriculture for her PhD project. Under the mentorship of Dr. Sascha Nicklisch and Dr. Julia Fine (USDA ARS), Angela seeks to improve knowledge of pesticide fate within hives, inform mitigation strategies, and promote communication between beekeepers, farmers, and researchers.
