Professor Andrew Whitehead won a UCD Advising and Mentoring award this summer and will be a Mentor Fellow through 2024. His lab studies genome-environment interactions in responses of fish to polluted water, such as induction of congenital heart disease, and how fish respond to climate change. A major research theme is to discover how killifish have evolved to persist in some of the most polluted urban estuaries on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. His students are frequent fellowship award winners. Nicole McNabb, pictured below examining small fish tanks, won three fellowship awards in the past year.
