ETX Students Make a Splash at 2023 Undergraduate Research Conference

Each year, students from across campus share their work with peers and the broader community at the UCD Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities Conference. This year, five students affiliated with the ETX program presented their undergraduate research! Lucija Plazibat and Mahmood Hashimi, working with adjunct faculty and Cal EPA scientist Elizabeth Marder, presented their work on risk assessments on organic chemicals (safrole and PFAS) in lotion and food packaging. Cristina Gonzalez and Savannah Torgerson, working with Christina Pasparakas’ group at the Bodega Marine Laboratory, evaluated the use of eDNA as a tool for monitoring fish biodiversity and the role of marine protected areas. Last but not least, Jeff Murray, working with Brett Poulin, presented his research on the concentrations of toxic mercury in fish from regions of Alaska impacted by climate change.
